Viva Mexico!!

Well, with the cold and tiring winter dragging it heels, Mary and I picked a nice, cold week in February to get away from it all. The day we left a 30cm storm hit. We were worried that we would not even be able to take off. But we left on time (luckily our flight was at 7am) and just had to wait a little while the plane was deiced and off to the Mayan Riviera we went.

It was good to hear we missed not one but two major snowstorms...oh yeah!! The flight was good, met some really nice couples that we hung out with for the rest of the week. The resort was amazing, very lush and the food was awesome. The rooms were beautiful - indoor jacuzzi, twice a day maid service, free room service, lots of great extras. The staff were so fun and friendly...the best we've ever seen. You never had to get up once from the pool or beach, they were so vigilant about getting you whatever you needed.

The first morning we were there, Mary noticed an Ontario Cabinet Minister two lounge chairs away from us....can't get away from work even on vacation!

The beach was really nice, we did lots of activities, ate to no end and drank ourselves silly. Our favourite was the martini bar. Another favourite was X lounge where they set up beds on the beach so you can gaze up at the stars. They had all top shelf liquor...there's nothing better than staring at the Big Dipper with Don Julio and Jose Cuervo. They had one hell of a Superbowl party too. The game was showing on the big screen in the outside theatre, they had the place all decorated, handed out party favours, and had tonnes of drinks and snacks flowing.

We can't get over how great the restaurants were....the Mayan coffees were quite a spectacle, it's a 15 minute show. The French and Mexican restaurants were our favourites. They had live entertainment everywhere from harpists, guitarists and opera-style singers to piano players and mariachi bands. It really created a wonderful and romantic atmosphere.

The best part was they kept predicting rain showers and the weather was perfect all week, clear and sunny with a couple of clouds.

Well, we're all partied out and looking forward to going back. We like trying different places but are hoping to head back there soon. Back to winter for now, arghhh, at least the memories will keep us warm!
